Overview and metadata sections
Anna Lau graduated from Haverford College in 1996. She majored in East Asian Languages.
The Anna Lau Familiar Places photographs collection contains 22 prints from a Haverford College photography portfolio created by student Anna Lau in 1995. In the photographer's own words, "Familiar Places" is "a series of photographs about spaces which have become so familiar to us that they are strangers." Among the collected images are photographs of such "familiar places" as the Sunken Lounge and basement of the Dining Center; several different classrooms in the Gest Center, Hilles Building, and Hall Building; a Road Bend in Coursey Road; the path behind the Whitehead Campus Center; and the auditorium in Chase Hall. By focusing the viewer's attention on these everyday spaces, Lau aims to "reacquaint you with the scenes that form your environment, to bring into light that which has been hidden in the darkness of custom." All photographs are of the Haverford College campus, except for one of McCabe Library at Swarthmore College.
The photographs are split between two folders in a single volume, with one folder containing the accompanying table of contents, title page, and artist's statement.
