Samuel Alsop was born March 15, 1813 in Philadelphia, PA., the son of Othniel Alsop and Hannah Brown. He was a teacher and author, and taught at Westtown School from 1853-1860. He married Rachel Griscom in October of 1838, and the couple had three children: Samuel, Rachel and David. Samuel Alsop died May 27, 1888 in Philadelphia, PA.

The collection contains a manuscript of mathematical analysis by Samuel Alsop.
