Overview and metadata sections
The Experimental College (ExCo) program was introduced to Haverford via the passing a plenary resolution in 1996. The program was a way to offer the student body a wider array of classes by letting students teach their own classes on whatever topic they saw fit. Students would apply to teach their class and then accepted classes would be offered to the general student body. A new set of classes was offered every quarter. This program was inspired by similar programs at other colleges, such as Oberlin.
This first box contains documentation of the first few years of coursework offered via ExCo. This includes applications, class handouts, and evaluations. The second box contains a variety of documents creating a chronology of the first few years of ExCo at Haverford. This includes research on ExCo programs at other institutions and Haverford, committee minutes before and after the passing of the ExCo plenary resolution, and promotional materials. Additionally, photographs from the first year of ExCo at Haverford can be found here.
