Ust Lampe was created by students studying German under Harry W. Pfund as part of the Language and Area Study Unit. This was a military training unit established at Haverford as part of the Army Specialized Training Program in 1943. President Morley considered Haverford particularly prepared to train students in German when the College applied to be part of the program.
The collection consists of two issues of Ust Lampe published in November 1943 and January 1944.The issues contain drawings, reports, and humor.

The January 1944 issue of Ust Lampe was integrated into the collection on October 22, 2021.
