Overview and metadata sections
Founded in 2000, the Center for Peace and Global Citizenship (CPGC) grew out of faculty and student interests which surfaced during the College's 2009 review for accreditation. Its mission is to advance "peace, social justice, and global citizenship through research, education, and action." The CPGC is involved with a wide range of programs throughout the summer and academic year, including sponsoring internships and student projects (often beyond campus), hosting symposia, workshops, and speakers, and supporting class activities. They oversee Haverford House, a program founded to strengthen the connections between the College and the city of Philadelphia.
Materials in the Center for Peace and Global Citizenship (CPGC) collection consist of Center publications, recordings of events, and information about programs. "Year in Review" is an annual report on the CPGC, while "Horizons" is a published newsletter; these and the e-newsletter highlight CPGC programs and students who have received funding from CPGC. "Issues" is a compilation of written and visual works created by interns sponsored by the CPGC. Correspondence consists mainly of announcements of CPGC programs. The scrapbook from a class taught by Anita Isaacs includes photos and written information about a trip to Guatemala. The reflections by student interns include short pieces by students who interned with the CPGC in Summer 2000. Projects for Peace materials include reports which feature Haverford students. Miscellaneous documents include listings of student interns and information on a CPGC programs. Recordings include a 2005 Africa workshop and the 2012 "Making Films, Constructing Histories." Administrative documents include old versions of the CPGC website.
