Overview and metadata sections
There is not much information available about this society. As this volume is the second one, it is assumed the Philomaterian Society began before 1787. In late 1787/ early 1788 (exact date unknown), the Philomathean and Mercantile Societies joined together, and were renamed the Literary and Commerical Societies. From notes in the minutes, Thomas Pim Cope was the group's secretary during this time.
This collection contains one volume, labeled Philomathian Society Minutes Vol 2. It includes minutes from the society's meetings, detailing conversations and debates held within the meetings.
