Overview and metadata sections

Robert J. Leach (1916-) was born in 1916 in New England. He was a conscientious objector during World War II and a teacher after the war. He has done extensive research on the history of whaling and Nantucket Quakers.

This collection is comprised of the single volume, typed, unpublished manuscript entitled "Nantucket Quakerism," written by Robert Leach. The manuscript describes Quakerism in Nantucket from 1698 to 1763, and theorizes that the failure to solve the problem of common land ownership lead to the collapse of Nantucket.
