Abstract:

The autobiography of Willa E. Ballard, a Quaker teacher, describes Ballard's early life, her parents and siblings, her experience growing up as a Quaker, her training as a teacher, and her experiences teaching in Moorestown and Atlantic City, New Jersey, and at the Mekusukey School in the Seminole Nation, as well as her time as a teacher and later a principal at various schools in California.

Willa E. Ballard (1872-1964) was born April 24, 1872, in Ohio. She was raised in Harveysburg, Ohio, on a farm. Her mother had been raised in England and grew up in the Church of England, but became a convinced Quaker after marrying Ballard's Quaker father. Ballard began teaching at the age of 18, and was an educator throughout her adult life in Moorestown, New Jersey, the Mekusukey school in the Seminole Nation, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and at schools in Southern California. She worked as a principal in Southern California schools from around 1920 until her retirement in 1940. She died January 13, 1964.

This collection is comprised of the single volume typed autobiography of Willa E. Ballard, a Quaker teacher.
