Abstract:

Thomas Fisher (1801-1856) was a Quaker poet, a member of the Academy of Natural Sciences, and the author of books on science and mathematics. This collection is comprised of his single volume signature album. The note on the inside cover reads: "The undersigned have examined Mr. Thomas Fisher's Diagrams for Generalizing and Simplifying Mathematical Principles; and believing them to be Novel and useful, subscribe in order to promote their publication." At the back of the volume there is a facsimile list of subscription to the Nonimportation Resolutions.

Thomas Fisher (1801-1856) was born January 21, 1801, the son of Samuel Rowland Fisher and Hannah Rodman Fisher. Fisher was a Quaker poet, a member of the Academy of Natural Sciences, and the author of two books: 'Dial of the Seasons, or a Portraiture of Nature,' and 'Mathematics Simplified and Made Attractive.' Fisher died on February 12, 1856, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
