Overview and metadata sections
Sarah Logan Fisher (1806-1891) was born on May 18, 1806, in Massachusetts, the daughter of William Logan Fisher and Mary Rodman Fisher. In 1826, Fisher married William Wister, and the couple had eight children; William Rotch Wister (1827), John Wister (1829), Harvey Langhorne Wister (1831), Langhorne Wister (1834), Elizabeth Harvey Wister (1836), Jones Wister (1839), Francis Wister (1841), and Rodman Wister (1844). Though initially disowned for marrying out, Fisher was eventually readmitted to the Society of Friends after her marriage. Fisher died on December 26, 1891, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
This collection is comprised of the single volume letterbook of Sarah Logan Fisher, and includes personal correspondence. The majority of letters are written to Fisher's family members, including her brother, Charles Fisher, and her cousin, Mary Arch, as well as a number of unnamed cousins. Letters largely concern family and friends, and births, deaths, and marriages within the Quaker community.
