Abstract:

This collection contains various reports regarding the education of Indigenous children in Oklahoma between the years 1938-1946 by Quaker, Christian, and Indigenous people. The Indigenous childrens' nation of origin include the Wyandotte Nation, the Seneca Nation, and the Osage Nation. Their schools include The Kickapoo School, the Seneca Indian School, and various Sunday Schools.

Ruthanna M. Simms was born on June 9th, 1880 in Cook, Illinois. She lived in Richmond, Indiana where she was a member of the Associated Executive Committee of Friends on Indian Affairs. Simms passed away on April of 1974. Hugh Mattern Cronister, born on June 8th, 1926, was an Earlham College student who worked on a report alongside his peers in 1947. William Earl Byerly was born on August 25th, 1901 in Weldon, Iowa. Marian Hannah Taber, formerly known as Marian Byerly, was born on August 2nd, 1902 in Iowa. William and Marian married on August 27th, 1934. They both taught at The Kickapoo School. Byerly passed away on April 22, 1997. Taber passed away on September 3rd, 1966. Ermin Perisho was born on September 6th, 1888 in New Providence, Iowa. Ruth Verle Coffin (Perisho) was born in 1897. Ermin and Ruth married on August 20th, 1929 in Pleasant Plain, Iowa. Perisho passed away in 1956. Verle Coffin passed away in 1985. Ralph Galt was born on September 6th, 1915. Louise May Cowan (Galt) was born on March 29th, 1914. Ralph and Louise married in 1940 in Boston, Massachusetts. Galt passed away on September 11th, 2004. Cowan passed away on August 17, 2001. Arthur Shufelt was born on March 16th, 1874 in Ohio. Westine Shufelt was born in 1895 in Indiana. Arthur and Westine were married. Arthur passed away on November 3rd, 1957.
