Abstract:

This collection contains a letter written by Richard Jones.

Richard Thomas Jones was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in May 1844, the son of Jacob Paul Jones, Benefactor, and Mary Thomas. He entered Haverford College in 1859 and graduated in 1863. During his time at Haverford, Jones was the vice president of the Loganian Society and president of the Athenaeum. He gave an address to the Loganian Society about "The Literary Genius of America" in 1863. He was an iron merchant. He married Marie Louise Bailey, dauther of Joseph T. and Marie Louise Bailey of Philadelphia, on April 29, 1868. After graduating from Haverford, he entered the counting-house of Morris and Jones. Richard Thomas Jones died in Philadelphia on June 6, 1868.

This collection contains a letter written by Richard Jones to his cousin in 1861, during his time at Haverford. In the letter, Jones references his studies and his cousin's recent graduation.
