Isaac J. Shoemaker was born in 1850 to Charles H. Shoemaker and Mary S. Boon. He was the youngest child of the family. He married Ann J. Reilly in 1876, and the couple had five children, Ann J. (b. 1876), Charles H. (b. 1877), William I. (b. 1879), Henry or Harry P. (b. 1880), and George W. (b. 1882). Isaac Shoemaker ran a saloon and restaurant business in New York City.

This collection contains the letters and family papers written between 1872 and 1906 to Isaac J. Shoemaker by several of his family members, including Charles Henry Shoemaker (Isaac's father), William Charles Shoemaker (Isaac's older brother), Rachel J. (Dilks) Shoemaker (Isaac's sister-in-law), and Margaret (Shoemaker) Kinsey (Isaac's sister). The collection also includes one incomplete letter from Isaac to his brother, William, one letter to William from Charles H. Shoemaker, and miscellaneous family papers.

This collection is arranged in a single folder.

The Shoemaker family letters were donated to Special Collections, Haverford College in 1985 by Daniel Ryan. Accession # 4777.
