Edward Rhoads (1841-1871) was the son of Samuel and Anne Gibbons Rhoads. He graduated from Haverford College in 1859, and received his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1863, before serving as physician at the Pennsylvania Hospital. A Quaker, he refused to fight in the Civil War. He was a member of several Philadelphia societies and was a manager of Haverford College from 1868 until his death in 1871.
