Elliston Perot Morris (1831-1914) was born May 22, 1831, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Samuel B. Morris and Hannah Perot Morris. Morris married Martha Canby on March 21, 1861, and the couple had four children: Marriott Canby Morris (b. 1863), Elizabeth Canby Morris (b. 1866), Samuel Buckley Morris (b. 1868), and E. Perot Morris (b. 1872). Morris died on December 3, 1914.
Martha Canby Morris (1836-1919) was born on May 12, 1836, in Wilmington, Delaware, the daughter of Eliza T. Sipple and Merrit Canby. She married Elliston P. Morris in March of 1861 in Philadelphia, and the couple had four children: Marriott Canby Morris (b. 1863), Elizabeth Canby Morris (b. 1866), Samuel Buckley Morris (b. 1868), and E. Perot Morris (b. 1872). Morris ided on November 1, 1919.
Marriott C. Morris (1863-1948) was born September 7, 1863, in Germantown, Pennsylvania, the son of Elliston P. Morris and Martha Canby. Morris married Jane G. Rhoads in June of 1897, and the couple had two children: Elliston Perot Morris (b. 1899), and Marriott Canby Morris (b. 1900). Morris died in 1948.
This collection is comprised of the correspondence and legal records of the Morris family, and includes the materials of Elliston P. Morris, Martha Morris, and Marriott C. Morris.

Collection Inventory
Personal correspondence of the Morris family. Letters are addressed to: Elliston and Martha Morris, and Marriott Morris. Letter writers include: Pliny E. Chase, Thomas Chase, Theodore W. Richards, and Isaac Sharpless.
Included are letters of Marriott C. Morris to his mother while a student at Haverford in 1883-85, and including a cyanotype photograph of the tennis team;autograph letter signed by Morris Wistar to his son, Caspar, no date; a photograph of Anna Canby; typed letter signed by Herbert Hoover about missing a Boys Club dinner, 1947; seven letters of Charles Rhoads to Beulah (Rhoads?), 1869; autograph letter signed by A.W. Jones to Mr & Mrs. Marriott Morris written from Osaka, Japan, 1904; copy of letter from Thomas Wistar to his daughter (date removed); copy of plan of the zoo park in Philadelphia, 1872; autograph letter signed by Joseph Sansom to his wife, Beulah, 1796; history of a 17th century cane.
Documents recording the execution of the wills of various members of the Morris family, including the execution of the wills of Samuel B. Morris, Elliston P. Morris, and Marriott C. Morris. The documents particularly disscuss the transfer of Library Company of Philadelphia assets to Elliston P. Morris and other Morris family members in the 19th cetury and to Lewis Benson in the 20th century.
