"The Friend," a religious and literary Quaker publication, was founded in 1827, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as a result of the Orthodox/Hicksite split. It continued publication until 1955, when it was consolidated with "Friends Intelligencer" (Hicksite) at the reunification of the two Philadelphia Yearly Meetings to become "Friends Journal." It is unknown when, why, or by whom this index was created.
This collection contains a topical and name index for "The Friend," a Philadelphia publication from 1827 to 1955. It is organized alphabetically.
