Overview and metadata sections

Gilbert Cope (1840-1928) was a historian, genealogist, and photographer. He was born and raised in West Chester, Pa. and was a Quaker who spent his life researching, recording and photographing life in Chester County. He co-wrote a history of Chester County, Pa. with Judge J. Smith Futhey, and was one of the founders of the Chester County Historical Society. He died in 1928.

This collection is comprised of the typed diary transcript of entries dated 1869, as well as the Genealogy of Kirk-Price and Cox-Garrett ancestors, and miscellaneous notes pertaining to the Gilbert Cope foundation of genealogy and historical research.

The Gilbert Cope papers were donated to Quaker & Special Collections, Haverford College, in 1947 by Joseph Cope.
