James Bean, the eldest child of John and Elizabeth Hill Bean, was born on June 11, 1822, in Alton, New Hampshire. He had four siblings. He died on October 3, 1915, in San Jose, California.

This collection is comprised of two folders of the correspondence and notes of James Bean.
