John Marshall Gest was a member of the Gest family and judge. He was born in 1859. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1879, obtaining his bachelor's degree, and from University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1882. He was given a degree of Doctor of Laws in 1930. During his career, he also published books, the most famous being called The Lawyer in Literature, which came out in 1913. He died on November 30, 1934 in Philadelphia.
The collection consists of photos of the Gest family members and their residence in Overbrook. People featured in the photos include Judge John Marshall Gest (1928), and John B. Gest and his wife.
The materials are arranged thematically - the first are the pictures of Judge Marshall Gest, followed by pictures of John B. Gest, his wife and their residence.
