Overview and metadata sections

Jean S. Straub was an educator and historian of education. She was an Assistant Professor and Personnel Officer in the School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania in the mid to late 1950s. Later, she became the Director of the Student Personnel Assistant Program and Associate Professor of Psychology and Education at The Ohio State University. In addition to other scholarly work, she wrote a history of the William Penn Charter School.

Materials in this collection document Straub's research and writing of a history of William Penn Charter School (WPCS). This work appears to have been done in the 1960s through 1980s, but was never published. Materials in the Notes section of the collection include extensive information on WPCS from a wide variety of sources, including the school's records. The Drafts series includes various drafts of chapters 1-5, including what appear to be final versions. Miscellaneous materials include correspondence, which indicates that there were discussions of publishing this work for WPCS's 275th anniversary; publications of WPCS; various published articles on WPCS and education written by Straub; and some miscellaneous materials.

The collection is organized according to type of material. There are three series: Notes, Drafts, and Miscellaneous.
