Overview and metadata sections
Anna Lewry Mather (1884-1954) was a member of the Horsham, Pennsylvania Monthly Meeting and was active in several horticultural societies. She was the wife of Frank H. Mather.
Frank H. Mather (1885-1964) was a member of the Horsham, Pennsylvania Monthly Meeting and the husband of Anna Lewry Mather.
Lukens Comly (1834-1907) was a farmer and a member of the Horsham, Pennsylvania Monthly Meeting. He married Elizabeth Harmer in 1884.
Includes miscellaneous and disconnected correspondence. Includes invitations to the weddings of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph W. Bullock (1871), Bertha K. Henry and William A. Nussle, and Lukens Comly and Elizabeth Harmer (1883). Also includes the marriage license and (legal) marriage certificate of Frank H. Mather and Anna Walton Lewry Mather (1916).
Written materials include one commonplace book, consisting largely of memorials to deceased individuals (1840-1863); six sheets of copied writing; and two paperbound books that serve as records of significant family events (births, deaths, and marriages), one written by Rachel Wood and one by a Walton family member (the brother, sister, or brother-in-law of Isaac Walton). Another small pamphlet is an account of the life of Alice Reeder, while the last three larger paperbound books are the diaries of one or more unidentified writers.
Included are legal documents, such as the wills of Joseph Carr, Nathan Comly, John Dunlap, and Jonathan Walton; power of attorney contracts for Robert C. Beatty to Jonathan Davis (1862) and for Seth Davis to Jonathan Walton (1855); a mortgage for $1800 loaned from Mary H. Kerbaugh to Elizabeth H. Comly (1913, with records of being paid through 1929); and information on the estates of Joseph Carr, Jonathan Davis, and Seth Davis.
Two large account books for farms are included. One has no identification, while the other has a note in the front of the book saying that it may have been the "farm business journal" of Lukens Comly in Horsham, Pennsylvania. It neatly and carefully records debits and credits. Four small account books (1848-1853, 1865-1884, 1868-1869, 1892-1895) (an 'Administrator's Account Book,' including instructions on how to settle an estate), are also included.
