Abstract:

This collection contains the personal letters, diaries, and miscellany of members of the Taylor and Frysinger families over three generations.

Thomas B. Taylor (1852-1911) was the husband of Elizabeth Savery Taylor and the father of Francis R. Taylor, Emma Harvey Taylor Jacob, and Ralph Savery Taylor. He was a Philadelphia lawyer. He should not be confused with Thomas B. Taylor, his grandson, the son of Ralph Savery Taylor.

Elizabeth Savery Taylor (1852-1936) was the wife of Thomas B. Taylor and the mother of Francis R. Taylor, Emma Harvey Taylor Jacob and Ralph Savery Taylor. She should not be confused with the Elizabeth S. Taylor who was the unmarried sister of her husband, nor with Elizabeth Richie Taylor, who was the wife of her son Francis.

Ralph Savery Taylor (1888-1957) was the husband of Margaret Brown Taylor and the son of Thomas B. and Elizabeth Savery Taylor. He had two children, Katherine Taylor Frysinger and Thomas B. Taylor.

Margaret Brown Taylor (1885-1983), was the wife of Ralph Savery Taylor and the mother of Katherine Taylor Frysinger and Thomas B. Taylor the younger. She was a recorded minister at West Chester, Pennsylvania Monthly Meeting.

Emma Harvey Taylor Jacob (d. 1938), was the wife of Edward H. Jacob and the daughter of Elizabeth Savery Taylor and Thomas B. Taylor. Ralph Savery Taylor and Francis R. Taylor were her brothers. She was a member of Birmingham Monthly Meeting (West Chester, Pennsylvania).

Daniel C. Frysinger (1915-2011) was the son of Howard L. Frysinger and Alice Chappell Frysinger, and the husband of Katherine Taylor Frysinger. He had four children: Bill, Bob, Margy, and Howard. He graduated from Westtown School in 1933 and Haverford College in 1937. He and Katherine Taylor Frysinger married in 1942, while he was serving as a conscientious objector. He served as the Business Manager for Pendle Hill in the 1980s.

This collection contains the personal letters, diaries, and miscellany of members of the Taylor and Frysinger families over three generations. There are three main series: journals/scrapbooks, correspondence, and miscellaneous.

The journals/scrapbooks series is made up of five boxes, spanning about 80 years, from the 1860s through the 1930s. Some of the boxes are only dedicated to a single person, but others include multiple identified persons. There are numerous commonplace books, journals, and scrapbooks across each of the individual boxes. A scrapbook of postcards, a scrapbook of political cartoons, and Emma Harvey Taylor's notebook from her cooking class, may be of interest.

The second series, the correspondence, focuses on letters received by different members of the family. The letters' topics and writers range from family interactions to the American Friends Service Committee to the Pennsylvania Department of Forestry. The bulk of this series is correspondence received by Ralph Savery Taylor, Margaret Brown Taylor, and Elizabeth S. Taylor.

The third and final series, miscellaneous, includes some folders of family receipts, a genealogy, weekend work camp materials, and World War II ration books. There are materials which revolve around Ralph S. Taylor's farm: a number of membership cards, a notebook from Ralph S. Taylor's agronomy class, a farmer's account book including a diagram of the farm, and notes about equipment and crops. Additionally of note are report cards, Young Friends Movement minutes and committee documentation, and a ticket to the 1948 Republican National convention.
