Overview and metadata sections

David Wright was born on 5 Apr. 1790 and was a citizen of Great Britain. He served as a surgeon in the British navy and, at one time, aboard the H.M. Nautilus. David Wright was married to Jane Rutter Wright, and they had at least one child, a son named David who resided in Adelaide, Australia.

The collection consists of a diary, 1835-1854 (Bulk 1839-1852), kept by British naval surgeon David Wright, b.1790. The diary contains periodic, sometime daily, entries describing the weather and events of the day. The bulk of the diary regards the personal, especially legal and financial, affairs of David Wright, but some entries relate to medical and naval activity. David Wright kept the diary while in London. Some entries may have been made by his wife. During at least part of the time the diary was kept, David Wright was infirmed and on half pay from the British navy.
