Elijah Powell, Tioga Co., N.Y. physician, was born in Pharsalia, N.Y., on 3 Oct. 1800. He graduated from Hamilton College and opened a practice in Richford, N.Y., in 1823. Powell married (1) Lydia Wells and (2) Jane Anderson, by whom he had seven children. He was elected first superintendent of schools, 1844, and county commissioner of schools, 1854. Elijah Powell was a member and president of the Tioga County Medical Society. He died on 12 Jan. 1876.
