Ephraim A. Santee was born in Luzerne County, Pa., in 1838. In 1862, he began to study medicine with A. L. Custer, a Conyngham, Pa., practitioner. Santee attended the 1863-1864, 1864-1865, and 1868-1869 sessions of Jefferson Medical College; he received an M.D. from Jefferson in 1869. Santee practiced medicine in several towns in Luzerne County. From 1865 to May 1866, he practice in Lehman, then moved to Shickshinny. In October 1870, he began to practice in Hollenback and, in May 1872, Hobbie. Santee entered into a partnership with a Dr. Price in 1878. In 1886, he moved his practice to Wapwallopen. E. A. Santee died of senile debility at Wapwallopen on 16 Sept. 1915.

Santee at Jefferson Medical College on, primarily, lectures of Samuel Henry Dickson on practice of medicine; Robley Dunglison on physiology; Samuel D. Gross on surgery and gunshot wounds; and Ellerslie Wallace on obstetrics. Includes notes on medical and surgical clinics of D. Hayes Agnew and J. L. Ludlow at Philadelphia General Hospital.
