Overview and metadata sections

John Ignatius McGuigan, Philadelphia physician, was born in 1866. He received his M.D. from Jefferson Medical College in 1887 and practiced in Overbrook, Pennsylvania. McGuigan was also on the staff of Chestnut Hill Hospital. He died of arteriosclerosis on 19 February 1937 in Bangor, Maine.

This small collection of John I. McGuigan material, 18991935, contains correspondence, accounts and bills from McGuigan's guardianship of Julius T. Lentz and John E. Lentz, a few miscellaneous bills, and his business and calling cards. Notable in the correspondence are two letters, 1902 and 1905, from Eugene N. Whiting concerning McGuigan's order of surgical instruments from the Electro Surgical Instrument Company of Rochester, New York.

The John I. McGuigan Papers were donated to the Historical Collections of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia as part of a larger gift by Samuel X Radbill, circa April 1984.

The collection was processed and catalogued in 1990.
