Notes by student, possibly Richard O. Flynn, taken from lectures of Eli Ives on materia medica at the Medical Institution of Yale College, 1822-1823. Ives defines materia medica, explains classification system, then describes individual substances and uses according to system in the following order: narcotics, antispasmodics, irritants, tonics, aromatics, astringents, emetics, cathartics, emmenagogues, diuretics, diaphoretics, expectorants, sialagogues, and errhines.
