Henry Welles Baird III, Philadelphia neurologist, was born on 10 Oct. 1922 in Fort Leavenworth, Kan. He attended Yale University, receiving a B.S. in 1945 and an M.D. in 1949. Baird married physician Eleanora C. Gordon in 1950; they had four sons. Baird died in Wynnewood, Pa., on 7 Apr. 1987. Baird was Professor of Pediatrics at Temple University Health Center in the School of Medicine, 19531968, as well as Attending Pediatrician (Neurology) at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, 19661984. In 1977, he became editor of "Developmental medicine and child neurology". Henry W. Baird became a Fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia in 1959.

Recounts Henry W. Baird's life and career in neurological research in series of letters addressed to his son, Douglas Gordon Baird, 19841985, to describe "how I happened to write the papers which include my name as author." Also includes biographical information, curriculum vitae, and bibliography. Baird describes his career through his published writings and recounts work with Ernest A. Spiegel in electroencephalography, pediatric neurology, and drug therapy for brain and neurological disorders.
