Abstract:: The Old Mill was a restaurant owned by husband and wife Charles A. and Althea M. Upperman. Located on Brinton Lake Road in Concordville, Pennsylvania (Delaware County), close to the border of Thornbury Township, it opened in 1955. The couple's son, Charles J. "Sam" Upperman, began managing the restaurant in 1957 and eventually became the owner, running the business for just over 35 years until it closed in 1993. The Old Mill records, 1956-1968, consist of financial and employment records including reservation and book keeping ledgers, checks, tax return stubs, and other materials.

Abstract:: The area now known as Thornbury Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania was populated by Lenni-Lenape Native Americans when Europeans began to settle there in the 17th century. Influenced in part by its Quaker roots, Thornbury was an historically tolerant community, home of the oldest historically black college in the United States: the Institute for Colored Youth, now known as Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, relocated there from Philadelphia in 1902. Largely rural for most of its history, commercial and residential development in Thornbury expanded throughout the 20th century. The Thornbury Historical Society local history collection, 1881-2014, consists of various primary-source and secondary-source materials documenting people, places, organizations, and other topics relating to Thornbury Township and nearby areas. Abstract:: Richard C. Pyle is a resident of Cheyney, Thornbury Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania who worked as a news director at KYW-TV in Philadelphia (a CBS affiliate) in the 1980s and 1990s. He wrote, directed, and produced the 1992 video "Historic Thornbury Township," a production of the Thornbury Historical Society. The video documents the history of the Thornbury area, including Thornton, Glen Mills, and Cheyney, from the 17th century through the 20th century. The Richard Pyle collection on "Historic Thornbury Township" video, circa 1989-1993, primarily consists of video tapes but also contains orders, binders with application materials for a Pennsylvania Federation of Museums and Historical Organizations award, and a few other items.
