Anti-Imperialist League Collected Records, 1899-1919 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Anti-Imperialist League was formed circa June 1898 to oppose the war of the United States with Spain over Cuba's fight for independence from Spanish rule. The United States also wished to expand its influence in the Carribean and across the Pacfic and so annexed the Philippine Islands and Puerto Rico. Eventually, the League grew into a bipartisan mass movement of some 30,000 members in 30 states. The Anti-Imperialist League continued to challenge American intervention abroad until 1920, but it was largely isolated from the peace movement and had lost most of its impact.

The Union of Democratic Control was founded in 1914 in London, England by an alliance of radical Liberal Party and Independent Labour Party members to protest Britain's decision to enter World War I. It became a well-respected and internationally known research organization, publishing many pamphlets about British national and colonial affairs. It was disbanded in 1966.

American Friends Service Committee: Civilian Public Service / Prison Service Committee Records, 1940-1947 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Organized to provide alternative service for conscientious objectors, who were assigned "work of national importance under civilian direction; the historic peace churches (Church of the Brethren, Religious Society of Friends and the Mennonite Church) band ed together to form the National Service Board for Religious Objectors (NISBRO) which coordinated the civilian public service (CPS) program; the American Friends Service Committee administered seventeen CPS camps and over thirty special service units which provided an alternative service program for 3400 men between 1941 and 1946.

Kindlewood Peace Community Records, 1970-1999 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Kindlewood Peace Community was a grassroots organization, located in Rome, New York, during the 1980s. Members of the organization wished to raise awareness of the nuclear Cruise missiles stored at the nearby Griffiss Air Force Base. Kindlewood members held vigils and weekly handed out leaflets at the Base gate. They were also involved in the planning of conversion of the base to civilian and limited military use in the 1990s.

Betty Medsger Collection of the Burglary of the FBI Office, Media, Pennsylvania, 1971-2014 (bulk)

Abstract:
Betty Medsger is an author, teacher, and investigative reporter. She worked for the Washington Post in 1971, and broke the story of the break-in of the FBI field office in Media, Pennsylvania. In 2014 Medsger published a book, The Burglary: The Discovery of J. Edgar Hoover's Secret FBI, detailing the history of the FBI break-in. With the publication of the book, most of the burglars still alive came forward. One of them was William Davidon, whose papers are also in the Peace Collection.

Abstract:
Women's Peace Society was not interested in using political or economic means to end what it termed "war-madness". Rather, its members chose educational methods such as handing out literature, participating in demonstrations, speaking at public events, and holding school contests. In August 1921, it sponsored a conference at Niagara Falls where it cooperated with Canadian peace women in starting the Women's Peace Union of the Western Hemisphere. The Women's Peace Union chose to work politically and urged a constitutional amendment to remove government war-making power. Other events undertaken by WPS included a Disarmament Parade in November 1921 and a No More War Day demonstration on Wall Street on July 25, 1921.
