Abstract:

PG6 Quaker meeting reference files consists primarily of publications by and about Quaker meetings and committees, including pamphlets, newspaper clippings, ephemera, and other materials (mostly secondary source), collected at various times from various sources, and organized by meeting. It also includes directories (including lists of Quaker member organizations and individual Quakers) and epistles (letters exchanged between Quaker organizations, especially from one yearly meeting to another; often used to articulate Quaker doctrine and discipline). Some almanacs are stored with the collection, but are cataloged separately.

Malin Family Papers, 1685-1881 (inclusive)

Abstract:

The collection is largely composed of financial, legal and real estate documents relating to the Malin property in Upper Providence, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Randall Malin of Cheshire, England, purchased 250 acres from William Penn in 1681. The bulk of the papers are related to the tenure of his grandson William Malin (1727-1803). His son Abner Malin (1752-1848) married Rachel Ogden in 1803 and was disowned by Chester Monthly Meeting in 1805. Other papers concern their son Stephen O. Malin (1806-1892) who continued to farm the property, family estate papers, and a small number of letters received by Rachel Ogden Malin.

Abstract:

The collection is composed largely of correspondence and related papers of Anna Travilla Speakman and her husband William Williams Speakman, Quakers of Swarthmore and Buck Hill Falls, Pennsylvania. Also represented is Anna's mother, Martha Newport Travilla, a Quaker minister who corresponded regularly with Samuel Willets. The Speakmans had a wide circle of friends in the extended Quaker community, particularly in Swarthmore College. The collection contains family photographs, some diaries, and albums.

Samuel Comfort (1776-1862) was a leader of the Hicksite Quaker movement and the grandson of John Woolman. The bulk of this collection is writings and correspondence of Samuel Comfort, many dealing with the Hicksite separation and questions of Quaker discipline; but there are also papers relating to other family members, including references to his grandparents John and Sarah Woolman.

Jody Pike sketches of New York Yearly Meeting and Friends United Meeting attendees, 1972

Abstract:

This collection consists of 10 pages of sketches, in ink and marker, depicting attendees at New York Yearly Meeting and Friends United Meeting. Many are identified, including Dr. Elton Trueblood, Arthur O. Roberts, and David X. Spencer. Some sketches include writing, perhaps notes of proceedings and/or quotes. The portraits are accompanied by a photocopied cover note from Jody Pike (a member of Conscience Bay Monthly Meeting) to Flop Collinan. There is also one photograph of New York friends attending the 1972 meeting of Friends United Meeting (some identified by name).
