Indian cinema pressbooks, 1929-2003 (inclusive)

Abstract:

Pressbooks are promotional material created by film producers to market films. These books usually contain a small synopsis of the plot, often in two or three languages, commonly English, Hindi, Urdu and sometimes a regional language like Gujarati, depending on the perceived audience for the movie. Since almost all of these movies were musicals, the lyrics to film-songs are a key feature of these booklets.This collection consists of multi-lingual cinema pressbooks that accompanied the release of films produced in India from 1929 to 2003. They are arranged in alphabetical order.

John R. Brobeck papers, 1942-2000 (inclusive)

Abstract:

The John R. Brobeck papers document the academic career of Dr. Brobeck, who was a Professor in the Department of Physiology of the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. A small set of records reveal the teaching materials he used during his tenure at Yale University Medical School from 1942 to 1952. The bulk of the collection covers Dr. Brobeck's work at Penn from 1952 to 2000 and includes not only his teaching materials, but also records that reflect his work as a department chair, his work on numerous committees that spanned all four of Penn's health related schools, and as an assistant to the Vice President of Health Affairs. The types of materials that can be found include correspondence, memoranda, minutes, reports, teaching materials, studies, notes, and memoranda.

The collection includes materials relating to the German occupation of Belgium, likely collected by Vaes during the war.

Gotham Book Mart collection of Edward Gorey material, 1945-2012 (inclusive)

Abstract:

Edward St. John Gorey (1925-2000) was an American author and artist, primarily known for his children's stories and illustrations of children's books, although he also produced adult-oriented work. Sometime around 1977, Gorey established a company, Doomed Enterprises, to handle all matters related to publication and licensing of his work. This collection consists primarily of records of Andreas Brown's and the Gotham Book Mart's records relating to Doomed Enterprises, documents relating to the execution of the Edward Gorey estate after 2000 (for which Brown served as an executor), and other documents and artifacts documenting Gorey's public image and legacy.
