A commonplace book written by an unnamed compiler in England spanning the years from 1830 to 1852. The volume, published by Taylor and Hessey in London, 1811, has a printed title page followed by eight printed pages comprising an explanation of a commonplace book, an abridgment of George Horne's Aurifondina Drexelius, a table of general subjects, and an index.

Abstract:
Alfred Betts Caldwell (1900-1980) was a 1924 graduate of The Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania and an author of mystery novels. The Alfred Betts Caldwell papers are comprised primarily of Caldwell's writings, including typescripts and some of his published novels. Also there are assignments and projects undertaken 1963-1965 while completing correspondence courses with the Professional Writers School located in Westport, Connecticut, and a scrapbook kept by Caldwell from 1917 to 1936.

Francis Howard Williams (1844-1922) was a Philadelphia literary critic and author whose works were featured in publications such as The Atlantic Monthly, Harper's Weekly, Lippincott's Magazine, and The Independent. He was the known friend of several literary greats including Walt Whitman, Louisa May Alcott, and George W. Cable and was part of a large circle of contemporary poets, writers, editors, and publishers of the time period. The collection includes letters to Williams, writings, and ephemera.

Abstract:
Howard Melvin Fast (1914-2003) was a best-selling and prolific American author of historical fiction, mysteries, and science fiction, known for his books on themes of patriotism, social justice, and the immigrant experience. He wrote nearly 100 books and more than 150 short stories, as well as numerous screenplays, stage plays, and newspaper columns. The Howard Fast papers include correspondence, journals, appointment books, address books, financials, writings, promotion and reviews, scrapbooks, biographies, profiles, chronologies, bibliographies, interviews, governmental and political files, vital records, personal documents, awards, photographs, artwork, and audiovisual materials. The papers were deposited at the University of Pennsylvania over the course of 45 years and represent nearly all facets of the writer's life.

Abstract:
The Beasley family papers are comprised largely of documents relating to three generations of Beasleys who lived in the vicinity of Philadelphia in the nineteenth century: Frederick Beasley (1777-1845), Frederick Williamson Beasley (1808-1878), and Frederick Williamson Beasley, Jr. (1845-1873). The collection includes letters, certificates, published works of the Beasleys, memorabilia from the University of Pennsylvania, guidebooks to the city of Philadelphia, and auction catalogues relating to the interests of the Beasley and Bancker families. The collection includes items with dates ranging from 1802 to 1929, with the bulk of the material falling between 1822 and 1899.

Cunnington and Lee family papers, 1813-1866 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Cunnington and Lee family papers, dating from 1813 to 1866, contain the correspondence of antiquarian William H. Cunnington (1754-1810) of Heytesbury, Wiltshire, England and his daughters Anne, Elizabeth, and Mary. The collection also contains the correspondence of William P. Cunnington (1804-1871) and his wife Jane Cook (1808-1872). William P. Cunnington was born in England and immigrated to the United States sometime after 1829. He was leader of the orchestra at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. The familial connection between William H. Cunnington and William P. Cunnington is not clear from the contents of the collection. In addition to the families' letters--which are concerned with family issues such as health, the settling of estates, and travel--the collection contains poems written by, and apparently copied by, the families and a small number of financial documents including estate documents, business ledgers, and receipts for rentals and purchases.
