Philadelphia Club of Advertising Women records, 1916-1984 (inclusive)

Abstract:

The Philadelphia Club of Advertising Women (PCAW) was founded in 1916 by sixteen women advertising executives. The Club participated in charitable efforts, offered advertising courses, published a newsletter (Ad-Land News), and hosted social events throughout its history. These efforts garnered national recognition for PCAW as a leading advertising organization. It also won them recognition locally as an organization committed to helping the community through scholarships and charitable giving. This collection contains the records produced by PCAW from 1916 to 1984, including material related to their advertising courses, events, history, charity involvement, and meetings. The collection has several strengths, the most notable of which is its comprehensive coverage of organizational activities from 1930 to 1977. Lucy T. Shoe Meritt papers, 1888-2003 (inclusive)

Abstract:

Lucy T. Shoe Meritt (1906- 2003) was an acclaimed archaeologist, scholar, teacher and editor who received her B.A, M.A, and Ph.D degrees from Bryn Mawr. During her life time, Shoe Meritt taught at Mount Holyoke College and the University of Texas at Austin, was a fellow at the American Academy of Rome, and served as the Editor of Publications for the American School of Classical Studies in Athens. Additionally, she was a member of the Institute for Advanced Study and the American Institute of Archaeology. She received the Gold Medal of the Archaeological Institute of America for Distinguished Archaeological Achievement in 1976. The collection is largely comprised of Shoe Meritt's correspondence with her family and notable scholars who were her contemporaries. It also includes diaries, publications, academic and professional papers, as well as photographs, postcards and scrapbooks.

Abstract:

The Office of Advancement of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia was formed in 2015 by the merging of two departments: the Communications Department and the Development Department, which were created in 1988 and 1987, respectively. The functions of the Office of Advancement include all aspects of fundraising; public relations for the entire College; and administration of the Fellowship and Friends of the Mütter, a membership program open to the public which supports the Mütter Museum. The Lecture and Event Files of the Communication and Development Departments date from 1992 to 1995 and consist of planning files regarding College lectures and other special events, including a health care forum, co-sponsored with Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). The forum was held in February 1994, and featured Hillary Rodham Clinton and Everett C. Koop. Abstract:

The Babies' Hospital of Philadelphia opened in 1911 in Wynnefield, PA, at the Country Branch of Children's Hospital. The hospital had limited wards to house its patients and the staff hosted pre-and post-natal clinics for mothers, though the physicians of the Babies Hospital largely emphasized treatment in the home. The records of the Babies' Hospital of Philadelphia, spanning from 1911-1960, contain annual reports, newsletter pamphlets, benefit matinee programs, material related to H. Lea Hudson for both the Babies' Hospital of Philadelphia and the Fife-Hamill Memorial Health Center for Southeast Philadelphia, corporate reports, photographs, and film. Abstract:

The WXPN records primarily cover the years from 1986 to 1999, although some earlier material is also present. The topic of the stations earlier history is documented in written reminiscences from people who had been involved with the station and with photocopies of WXPN-related material in newspaper clippings and past University of Pennsylvania yearbooks. The bulk of the collection details how WXPN functioned and operated since 1986, when a professional staff began to direct most of the station's operations. Major subject groupings cover information on the station's audience; financial records and information on the station's underwriting; and correspondence. Abstract:

The Alvin Goldstein papers document the period during which Mr. Goldstein (1934-2014) attended the University of Minnesota and was involved in student Zionist organizations. The early 1950s were a critical time for Zionists, just years after the establishment of the State of Israel, and on the eve of the 1956 Suez crisis and Israel-Arab war. The collection consists of a diverse yet integrally related group of ephemeral materials. There are newsletters, brochures, pamphlets, reports, correspondence, and convention programs. Notably, there is detailed information about the founding and first two conventions of the Student Zionist Organization (SZO) and their related activities.

Abstract:

Franklin H. Littell (1917-2009), professor and department head of Temple University's Department of Religion, was a Methodist minister, pacifist, activist, proponent of religious liberty, historian, and supporter of the State of Israel. He advocated against political extremism, was active in the rehabilitation of Germany after World War II, and dedicated himself to the study of the Holocaust. The Franklin H. Littell Papers house a variety of correspondence, research and writing, planning, organizational and administrative records, ephemera and printed materials, collected reference and other papers documenting Littell's work and interests in religious liberty; anti-extremism; interfaith cooperation; church history; Methodism, ministry and the laity; education, especially religion in education; and the study and memorialization of the Holocaust.
