Abstract:

The University of Pennsylvania Center for Urban Research and Experiment, known as CURE, was established in 1968 under the direction of Robert B. Mitchell. This collection of minutes, reports, memorandum, correspondence and audiocassettes collected by associate professor Jacob B. Ukeles provides documentation of the Center's urban strategies project. Under the direction of Ukeles, the project sought to designate alternative strategies for urban problem areas.

Abstract:

The Davis Grange (a subchapter of the Pennsylvania State Grange and the National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry) was founded sometime in the late 19th or early 20th centuries, and was based in Eighty-Four, Washington County, Pennsylvania. The Davis Grange No. 1466 records date from 1925 to 1960, and include materials documenting the meetings, activities, and membership of the Davis Grange. This collection documents the life of an agricultural community in rural Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania State Grange activities in Washington County. The minute books in particular are a rich source of information and include records of members, such as their names, their activities, their accomplishments, and notices of their deaths.

Abstract:

The Education Council's mandate was to "coordinate the educational work of the several divisions of the University," and to consider the work done by the University overall, which it performed from January 1931 to April 1963. Its records contain administrative correspondence, meeting minutes and associated materials, grant applications and reports, and records of faculty publications. The bulk of the collection documents the work of the Faculty Research committee, which oversaw the administration of grants awarded by the University to members of the faculty.

Abstract:

The Alvin Goldstein papers document the period during which Mr. Goldstein (1934-2014) attended the University of Minnesota and was involved in student Zionist organizations. The early 1950s were a critical time for Zionists, just years after the establishment of the State of Israel, and on the eve of the 1956 Suez crisis and Israel-Arab war. The collection consists of a diverse yet integrally related group of ephemeral materials. There are newsletters, brochures, pamphlets, reports, correspondence, and convention programs. Notably, there is detailed information about the founding and first two conventions of the Student Zionist Organization (SZO) and their related activities.

Abstract:

Albert E. Clattenburg, Jr. (1906-1987) was an official and a diplomat with the United States State Department who was involved in the revisions of the Geneva Convention from 1947 to 1949. This collection contains eighteen bound volumes of materials documenting Clattenburg's involvement in the International Red Cross Conferences relating to the Geneva Conventions. While most of the material is printed and was clearly disseminated to all members of committees and delegations, these are Clattenburg's working copies of minutes, reports, and amendments.

Pennsylvania State Dental Examining Board minute book, 1876-1897 (inclusive)

Abstract:

The Pennsylvania State Dental Examining Board was created after the passage of an act to regulate the practice of dentistry in 1876. This act mandated that no one could practice dentistry without having received a diploma from a reputable institution in dentistry or having obtained a certificate from the board of examiners. This volume contains notes from the Pennsylvania State Dental Examining Board meetings. These meeting notes generally include ratings for qualifications of dentists for the board, treasurer's reports, dentist ratings, board meeting summaries, locations and dates of board meetings, and lists of students who had presented themselves before and had been endorsed by the board.
