Abstract:

Harry Mathews (1930-2017) is an experimental poet and prose writer. Mathews is well known for authoring several highly acclaimed novels; co-founding and co-editing the literary magazine, Locus Solus; and for his membership in the French avant-garde literary society, Olipo. The collection documents Mathews' professional life, and to a lesser extent, his personal life and includes drafts, typescripts, and corrected typescripts of Mathews' prose and poetry; publicity and promotion resulting from his literary work; research files probably used for writing his books; teaching and workshop records; writings by others; extensive correspondence which is restricted from use unless permission is granted by Mathews; and a small amount of audio visual material as well as several computer files.

Gotham Book Mart collection of Edward Gorey material, 1945-2012 (inclusive)

Abstract:

Edward St. John Gorey (1925-2000) was an American author and artist, primarily known for his children's stories and illustrations of children's books, although he also produced adult-oriented work. Sometime around 1977, Gorey established a company, Doomed Enterprises, to handle all matters related to publication and licensing of his work. This collection consists primarily of records of Andreas Brown's and the Gotham Book Mart's records relating to Doomed Enterprises, documents relating to the execution of the Edward Gorey estate after 2000 (for which Brown served as an executor), and other documents and artifacts documenting Gorey's public image and legacy.

Founded in 2012, the Monument Lab is an independent public art and history studio based in Philadelphia. Founded and led by Paul Farber and Ken Lum, Monument Lab works with artists, students, activists, municipal agencies, and cultural institutions on creative avenues for public engagement and collective memory. This collection documents the Monument Lab project, undertaken in partnership with Mural Arts Philadelphia, from 2015 to 2017, addressing the question, "what is an appropriate monument for the current city of Philadelphia?" The project collected 4,500 monument proposals, of which twenty were selected for temporary exhibit at a variety of public sites across the city

Abstract:

The business records of the Maternity Care Coalition (MCC), a Philadelphia-based organization devoted to preventing infant mortality. Founded in 1980, the Maternity Care Coalition continued to operate at the time of the donation in 2009. The bulk of the materials comprise community outreach and client education materials, research materials, and publications. Also present within the collection are newspaper clippings, a number of media appearances captured on VHS, reel-to-reel, and audio cassettes, as well as a series of photographs that span the years 1985 to 2005.

The Ray Evans papers comprise materials documenting his career as the lyricist for the songwriting team of Livingston and Evans.
