Abstract:
Founded by Dr. Elizabeth Comly-Howell in 1889, the West Philadelphia Hospital for Women was established in order to provide a place in West Philadelphia where women could be treated by women. In 1929, the hospital merged with the Woman's Hospital of Philadelphia. At the time of the merger, it was arranged that all maternity cases would be sent to the West Philadelphia Hospital, and surgical cases would be kept at the Woman's Hospital of Philadelphia. The Woman's Hospital of Philadelphia continued in existence until 1964 when it was absorbed by the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The collection contains Board of Manager records, Executive Committee records and historical materials.

Abstract:
The Library records contains documentation of the Drexel University Library from its creation in 1891 to 2003. Drexel University Library has been housed in three different buildings; the Main Building (1891-1958), the Korman Center (1959-1982) and W.W. Hagerty Library (1983-2010). The library was also responsible for running the library school until 1962, with the exception of the years 1914 to 1922 when the library school was suspended. The documents in this collection constitute a record of the activities of the directors, the internal library departments, and the intensive planning of the form and function of the two library buildings.

Records of the Chairman of the Committee on the Mütter Museum, 1926-1970 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Committee on the Mütter Museum of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia was charged with the general supervision of the anatomical and pathological museum established by the articles of agreement made between the College and Thomas D. Mütter in 1858-1859. The chairman of the committee was to report annually on the condition of the museum and semi-annually on its financial situation. The collection contains the correspondence and financial files of chairmen of the Committee of the Mütter Museum of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, 1926-1970, documenting the acquisitions and oversight of the Museum and College Collections.

Robert S. Pressman papers, 1934-1985 (bulk) 1856-1996 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Robert S. Pressman graduated from the Temple University School of Medicine in 1946 and received a Master of Medical Science degree in Internal Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. Pressman served as an Associate Professor of Medicine at Temple University and as head of the infectious diseases section at the Albert Einstein Medical Center. He was a president of the Philadelphia County Medical Society and of the Pennsylvania Society of Internal Medicine. He also served as president of the medical staff at Albert Einstein Medical Center. Pressman was elected a fellow of the College of Physicians in 1955 and served as its president from 1984 to 1986. The Robert S. Pressman papers document Pressman's professional role in various medical societies in Philadelphia, as well as his research and writings. Abstract:
The office of the Secretary of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia was created during the organization of the College in 1787. The Secretary is the appointed officer of record. The position's original duties were to record the minutes and transactions of the College and preserve its documents and correspondence. This collection contains correspondence of the Office of the Secretary of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia from the 1890s to 1908, along with several letters dating to the 1830s and 1958. Of note is the resignation of Thomas Parke, dated 27 August 1833, from the Office of the President. This collection also holds the Secretary's annual reports, 1934-1940, as well as a file regarding the Chana Medical School project (1963).

Records of the Committee on Scientific Business, 1910-1978 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Committee on Scientific Business was created by an amendment to the ordinances and by-laws adopted in October 1907. The original committee members were appointed in November 1907. It seems the purpose of the committee was to schedule presentations by Fellows during College meetings. It is unclear when the Committee was disbanded, but it is no longer active (2018). The Records of the Committee span the years 1910 to 1940, and then from 1972 to 1978, and are comprised mainly of annual reports, minutes, and correspondence from and regarding the Committee's meetings. Several transcripts of presentations, given in 1972 and 1973, are also included in the collection, as well correspondence and event planning information for College Night 1976, the Bicentennial Series.
