- Calvin W. Schwabe (born in 1927) is a veterinarian and public health scientist. He married Gwendolyn Joyce Thompson (nicknamed "Tippy") in 1951. In 1954, the Schwabes joined the Society of Friends. From 1956 to 1966, Calvin Schwabe was a member of the medical and public health facilities of the American University of Beirut. Beginning in 1960, he served as a consultant to the World Health Organization. In 1966, he established the first department and graduate program in epidemiology with a school of veterinary medicine at the University of California, Davis, and served as Professor of Epidemiology within the veterinary and medical schools until his retirement in 1991. The collection contains photocopies of family letters, 1950-1978, sent by Gwendolyn ("Tippy") Schwabe with notes from Cal Schwabe to their parents, 1950 to 1978.
