Abstract:
Mariana Wright Chapman was a prominant New York Quaker suffragist. The collection includes correspondence received while she was active in suffrage activities in New York State, 1893-1900, family letters, particularly between Mariana and her husband, Noah, and the correspondence of the Wrights, the Chapmans, and of her son, A.Wright Chapman. The collection also includes Mariana's journals from 1895-1900, that of Caroline Willets, 1842-1846, and as well as suffrage memorabilia, family copybooks and albums, and financial records, including an account book of the Manhasssett Association of Relief, 1861-1871.

Carrie Chapman Catt papers, 1840-1947 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Carrie Lane Chapman Catt (1859-1947) was an internationally recognized suffragist, and political activist. In 1900 Catt succeeded Susan B. Anthony as President of the National American Woman Suffrage Association, and remained in the position for four years. Catt founded the International Woman Suffrage Alliance in 1902 and served as its president for many years. During the 1930's and 1940's she was active in working against the Nazis, particularly their persecution of Jews. The Carrie Chapman Catt Papers focus on the history of the women's suffrage movement, with material pertaining both directly to her and to the movement as a whole, and consists of a variety of materials including letters, photographs, political cartoons and memorabilia.

Edwin D. Mead and Lucia Ames Mead Papers, 1876-1938 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Edwin D. Mead (1849-1937), and Lucia Ames Mead (1856-1936), were both leading pacifists, writers, and social reformers of the U.S. and international peace movement. Edwin Mead directed the work of the World Peace Foundation and participated in many international peace congresses. He was an American delegate to the International Peace Bureau. Mead helped found the School Peace League and was a prominent member of the American Peace League. Lucia Ames Mead was a leading member of many feminist and pacifist organizations, including the Woman's Peace Party. Mead was a delegate to the founding conference of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom in 1919 and served as a vice-president on the board of the National Council for Prevention of War. She was also an officer of the National Council of Women of the United States, and was a member of many U.S. feminist associations.

Hannah Clothier Hull Papers, 1889-1958 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Hannah Clothier Hull (1872-1958), was one of the founders of the Woman's Peace Party and the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. She served as a national officer of the WILPF for nearly forty years. Hull was also active in other social reform movements. A member of a well-to-do Quaker family, Hannah Clothier graduated from Swarthmore College in 1891. She first worked at a Philadelphia settlement house and then entered the graduate program in social work at Bryn Mawr College. In the following year Hannah Clothier married William Isaac Hull, a fellow pacifist and professor of political science at Swarthmore. Hannah Clothier Hull worked in the woman suffrage campaign and women's rights, had some interest in temperance, was a member of the Friends Peace Committee of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, and was on the board of the American Friends Service Committee (1928-1947).

The American Association for International Cooperation and the League of Nations Non-Partisan Committee merged on January 10, 1923 to become the League of Nations Non-Partisan Association. This name was shortened in 1929 to become the League of Nations Association. The organization was inactive during WWII. After the war, it was revived as the United Nations Association.

Anna Melissa Graves was a writer, teacher, world traveler, and internationalist. From the 1920s to the 1940s Graves traveled through Africa, Central and South America, China, Europe, and the Middle East. She taught school in many of these places and maintained a voluminous correspondence with the teachers, acquaintances, and former students she met on her travels.
