Overview and metadata sections

Henry S. Landes (also spelled "Landis") was a historian in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He was born in 1871 to Henry C. Landes and Elizabeth H. Souder, and married Mary E. Hause in 1891. His columns for the Souderton Independent newspaper were collected for the book History of Souderton, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, published in 1930. Landes died in 1950 and was buried in the Souderton Mennonite Cemetery.

The Henry S. Landes papers, 1891-1954, consist primarily of historical and genealogical research accumulated by Landes, with a small amount of personal papers. The collection includes lists of Revolutionary War soldiers and townships; Sons of the American Revolution burial index; Landis/Landes family genealogy research notes; and a box with invitations, correspondence, research notes, family trees, photographs, and a child's school book.

There is also one box of Landes/Landis reunion booklets, 1917-1954.
