Overview and metadata sections

Fort Washington, Pennsylvania (now part of Upper Dublin Township and Whitemarsh Township) was settled in the 18th century by German immigrants. During the Revolutionary War this area became famous as the encampment for George Washington and the Continental Army after the Battle of Germantown and prior to the march to Valley Forge in 1777. The battle of Whitemarsh was also fought in 1777.

This collection is comprised of anonymous scrapbooks on topics related to Fort Washington area history. The scrapbooks are largely made up of newspaper clippings, although some contain varying amounts of ephemera and pamphlets. There are a total of six scrapbooks, each on one of the following topics: the Wissahickon Valley (1875), Fort Washington history (1907-1909), the Historical Society of Fort Washington Flower Show (1939), the Needlework Guild (1917-1938), George Washington at Whitemarsh (1936-1937), and George Washington in Pennsylvania (1975).
